When Rick Stein got back to the UK
after his trip here in the summer of 2004, he was quoted in
a Sunday Times interview as saying,
"The best meal I ate on the whole canal trip was a 'magret
de canard in red wine sauce' cooked by a wonderful character
called Vétou who ran a restaurant in a little village called
Lagručre. Washed down with a
bottle of the local wine from the local Cocumont vineyard , it was French
cooking as it should be and was simply to
die for!"
Now you too can experience this
typical Gascogne dish served for you in the comfort of
Vétou's own dining room
by Vétou herself!
For one night, for each group of
guests, Vétou has
agreed to be your hostess and chef and prepare and serve
the exact same meal especially for you, in her own home. Vétou lives in the
village, just one minute's drive from "Les Peupliers". But
don't worry about that; we will "taxi" you to her house and
back, help with the service and translate as required (Vétou
speaks no English).
So, no worrying about who is going to be the
designated driver for the evening! And no slaving over a hot
stove either! You can just relax, be waited
upon, and eat a leisurely home-cooked dinner in the true style of southwest
France, and in a French village house. And to whet your
appetite before you go, we will serve you an aperitif "Chez Nous" and show you part of Episode 3
of Rick's programme, " A French "Odyssey", which featured
Lagručre, Vétou and your host
Pete!
The cost of this superb four course
meal will be just 35 euros per adult, 15 euros per child
under 16, including aperitifs,
one bottle of wine per person
and coffee (much less than the same meal in a restaurant and
so much better!)
If you wish to book this unique
opportunity, please do so on your booking form. The actual
night of the dinner will depend on Vétou's availability,
therefore we cannot guarantee a specific date in advance.
But whatever night it happens it will be something special,
a highlight of your holiday, and hopefully a talking point
for a long time to come!
*on the night you
will need to know that Vétou is pronounced "Vaytoo"
